| Aanvullende informatie |
Tromelin is administered by France as part of the Terres australes et antarctiques françaises, but its sovereignty is actively disputed by Mauritius — and, to a lesser extent, Madagascar. No permanent civilian population has ever lived there; the island hosts only a rotating weather station staffed by Météo-France. Coins issued under the Scattered Islands designation are struck purely for philatelic and numismatic sale, with zero circulation intent.
The island's most documented historical episode is the 1761 wreck of the French slave ship L'Utile, which stranded over sixty enslaved Malagasy people on the island for fifteen years before a rescue vessel finally reached the survivors in 1776.
