Bradbury Wilkinson printed this series from their New Malden facility during a period when the firm was among the last independent British security printers still operating outside a major conglomerate — they were acquired by American Bank Note Company in 1990, the year the company folded. Pit Weyer, a Luxembourgish designer, was one of the few native artists to receive a commission for national banknote design in this period, which was otherwise dominated by the printers' own in-house studios.
The note circulated across two distinct signature combinations, suggesting a longer active life than the six-year window implies. Watermark-only security was already conservative for the 1980s.
