The Banque Centrale des États de l'Afrique Équatoriale et du Cameroun was a transitional institution — created to bridge the gap between French colonial monetary administration and the independent central banking structures that would follow. It operated only briefly in the early 1960s before being superseded by the Banque des États de l'Afrique Centrale (BEAC) and the associated CFA franc zone arrangements. This note belongs to that narrow window of institutional reorganization following the independence of member states including Chad, the Central African Republic, Congo, Gabon, and Cameroon.

The Banque de France printed this series, continuing an arrangement that predated independence by decades.
