Obverse description A standing allegorical female figure at left holds a portrait medallion of Ceres, the goddess of agriculture, while a seated boy on a rocky outcrop surrounded by tropical produce and elephant tusks occupies the central lower register, and a kneeling female figure appears at right. The vignette is rendered in fine intaglio engraving in the colonial allegorical style typical of early twentieth-century African colonial currency.

Reverse description The central vignette presents a kneeling Congolese woman with a young child seated before her at left, facing a standing Congolese warrior holding a long paddle or spear at right, with a riverscape and distant settlement visible in the tonal underprint background.
