Obverse description Blue intaglio print on white paper, with a seated male allegorical figure at left and a standing female figure at right holding a sceptre, forming flanking vignettes around a central text block. The text block carries the issuer name, place and date of issue, denomination in figures and words, and a legal warning against counterfeiting. The denomination value appears in blue at upper and lower margins.
Obverse lettering BANQUE NATIONALE Bruxelles, le 22 Mars 1873. 100 100 CENT FRANCS PAYABLE À VUE LA LOI PUNIT LE CONTREFACTEUR DES TRAVAUX FORCÉS.
(Translation: National Bank Brussels, March 22nd, 1873. One Hundred Francs Payable on sight. The law punishes the counterfeiter with forced labour.)
