Reverse description The reverse presents a bold sculptural portrait of Jean Monnet, one of the founding fathers of European integration, depicted in a large forward-facing bust that occupies the left and centre of the field. The right half of the portrait merges artistically with a stylised outline map of Europe rendered in fine horizontal lines, surrounded by a ring of stars symbolising the European Community. The denomination '15 ECUS' is inscribed in the lower right field. The legend 'COMMUNAUTE EUROPEENNE' curves along the upper border, while 'JEAN MONNET · UNIR LES HOMMES' is inscribed along the lower arc. The engraver's signature 'J. JIMENEZ' appears vertically at the right.
