This micro-gold issue belongs to the wave of sub-Saharan CFA franc-zone commemoratives produced almost entirely for the collector export market — Niger itself uses the West African CFA franc in daily commerce, meaning pieces like this were never intended to circulate and in practical terms never did. The unusual geometry of a 40mm diameter at just 0.16g results from a gold-foil-on-base construction rather than a solid gold planchet, a format common to this producer series despite the .999 fineness designation applying only to the foil layer.
