Hungary switched to magnetic bimetallic coinage for the 100 Forint in 2012 primarily to combat counterfeiting and reduce production costs, as the steel core is significantly cheaper than the earlier nickel-brass alloy it replaced. The Adamo F12.2 designation distinguishes this magnetic variety from the visually identical F12.1, a distinction invisible to casual handling but immediately apparent with a simple magnet test.
