Aruba achieved its separate status within the Kingdom of the Netherlands in 1986, breaking away from the Netherlands Antilles after years of political friction, particularly with Curaçao. The 100 Florin gold issue commemorating that Status Aparte was part of a short series produced by the Central Bank of Aruba to mark national milestones — struck in modest numbers and intended more for collector cabinets than pocket change.
