Obverse description Central depiction of the historic Sira Fortress perched atop its rocky promontory, rendered in relief with detailed stonework and battlements. The Arabic legend naming the country curves along the upper periphery of the octagonal flan, while the Arabic inscription identifying the fortress as 'Qal'at Sira' appears beneath the central device. The date 1981 is inscribed in Western Arabic numerals below the fortress, and the English legend 'PEOPLE'S DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF YEMEN' runs along the lower edge of the coin.
