The Tolmin Peasant Revolt of 1713 was one of the largest uprisings in Slovenian history, drawing in thousands of peasants from the Tolmin region who had been pushed to breaking point by the Habsburg administration's postwar tax demands following the War of the Spanish Succession. The revolt was crushed within weeks, and its leaders were executed with exceptional brutality — the ringleader Ivan Gradnik was broken on the wheel in Tolmin's main square.
This coin marks the three-hundredth anniversary of that suppression.
