Obverse description The obverse depicts the Hindu goddess Lakshmi seated upon a lotus blossom in a frontal pose, flanked symmetrically by two elephants. Of her four hands, two hold lotus flowers and two pour forth gold coins, symbolizing abundance and prosperity. Below the central effigy appears the inscription NISHKA, a Sanskrit term denoting a small golden disc used as a monetary unit in ancient India. The surrounding field bears the legend REPUBLIK ÖSTERREICH and the denomination 100 EURO, arranged in the outer ring of the design.
