Additional information

The Sette Giugno — "Seventh of June" — refers to the 1919 bread riots in Malta that left four Maltese civilians dead after British troops fired into a crowd protesting food price increases and the cost of living following World War I. The event radicalized Maltese political opinion and accelerated pressure on Britain for self-governance, which arrived in partial form with the 1921 constitution granting Malta its first elected parliament.

The centenary issue marks a hundred years since those deaths.
