The "Coq Gaulois" series has been a recurring motif in French coinage since the 19th century, but this third-type iteration reflects a 2014 redesign by Joaquin Jimenez intended to modernize the rooster's rendering while maintaining its role as France's unofficial national symbol. The 100 Euro face value is nominal — these were issued as collector pieces, never intended for circulation, and the silver content alone significantly exceeds any practical spending value.
