The "Coq Gaulois" series from Monnaie de Paris revived a symbol that had been largely absent from French coinage since the Third Republic. The 2014 issue was struck under the authority of the Paris Mint's ongoing collector program, which repositioned the rooster — long associated with French national identity through Gallic folklore rather than any official heraldic decision — as an anchor motif for annual silver releases aimed at international bullion collectors.
