Matija Jama (1872–1947) was a central figure in Slovenian Impressionism, trained in Munich and later closely associated with the so-called "Četverica" — the group of four Slovenian painters who introduced plein-air Impressionist technique to their home country in the early twentieth century. His landscapes of the Karst region and the Soča valley remain benchmark works in Slovenian national collections.
Slovenia has issued a consistent series of collector gold pieces honoring national cultural figures, and Jama's inclusion reflects his standing in the permanent collection of the National Gallery in Ljubljana.
