| Beschrijving keerzijde | A detailed architectural panorama of the Wittenberg Schlosskirche (Castle Church) and its surrounding historic buildings dominates the reverse, rendered in fine relief with characteristic spires, towers, and ornate rooflines. In the lower foreground, a group of small human figures are depicted walking along a curved path toward the complex, evoking the theme of pilgrimage and cultural heritage. The curved legend 'LUTHERGEDENKSTÄTTEN EISLEBEN UND WITTENBERG' arcs across the upper periphery, while 'UNESCO' appears at the lower left and 'WELTERBE' at the lower right, flanking the scene. The composition emphasizes the monumental scale of the heritage site and its significance as a UNESCO World Heritage location associated with Martin Luther. |

This coin marks the 500th anniversary of the Reformation, the same year Germany formally designated 2017 as the Luther Decade's culminating "Reformation Year." The Luthergedenkstätten — the memorial sites in Eisleben and Wittenberg — were added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1996, covering Luther's birthplace, his death house, and the Schlosskirche where he allegedly posted the Ninety-Five Theses in 1517.
Part of Germany's ongoing UNESCO World Heritage gold series, each issue in the program is limited to 40,000 pieces.
