The fourth release in Austria's Vienna Secession series, this coin commemorates Otto Wagner's 1899 apartment building on the Linke Wienzeile — a structure the city's conservative establishment actively despised at the time of its completion. Wagner financed part of the project himself after municipal authorities repeatedly obstructed his modernist ambitions along the Naschmarkt corridor.
The .986 fineness places it fractionally above the .9999 fine issues that now dominate the bullion market, a holdover from the traditional crown-gold standard the Austrian Mint maintained for collector series well into the 2000s.
