Beschrijving keerzijde A right-facing crowned bust of King Tomislav, first king of Croatia, occupies the central field in high relief, depicted with a full beard and wearing a medieval crown. The portrait is rendered in a bold, idealized style evoking medieval numismatic tradition. The peripheral legend, arranged along the left and upper rim, reads ANNO DOMINI 925. KRALJ TOMISLAV in Latin characters, commemorating the year of his coronation.

Aanvullende informatie

King Tomislav is traditionally credited as the first king of Croatia, crowned around 925 AD — though the sole surviving source is a letter from Pope John X, which names him king without elaborating on any formal coronation ceremony. The historical record is thin enough that Croatian numismatists have long debated whether a commemorative of this stature overstates the documentary evidence. Croatia adopted the euro on January 1, 2023, making this one of the earliest gold collector issues the Croatian National Bank has produced denominated in euros rather than kuna.
