| Additional information |
Part of the Austrian Mint's "Crown Jewels of the House of Habsburg" series, this issue commemorates the Archducal Crown of Austria — the private hereditary crown of the Habsburg dynasty, distinct from the crown used at Holy Roman imperial coronations. Rudolf II had it made in Prague around 1602, and it eventually became the crown of the Austrian Empire when Francis II declared himself Emperor of Austria in 1804, largely to preempt the dissolution of the Holy Roman Empire, which came two years later.
The .986 fine gold specification matches the traditional crown gold standard maintained by the Vienna Mint across its commemorative bullion program. Mintage was capped at 30,000 pieces.
