背面描述 A detailed view of the Acropolis of Athens is depicted in high relief at the centre of the field, with the Parthenon prominently featured atop its rocky promontory. The legend Η ΑΚΡΟΠΟΛΗ ΤΗΣ ΑΘΗΝΑΣ is inscribed around the design, identifying the ancient monument in Greek script. A raised circular border encloses the central motif, outside of which twelve five-pointed stars form the customary European Union ring along the outer rim. The composition reflects a classical architectural rendering executed in a refined engraving style befitting a commemorative gold issue.

附加信息

Issued to coincide with the Athens Summer Olympics, this coin belongs to a broader Greek commemorative program that used the games as an occasion to revisit classical antiquity rather than celebrate the modern athletic event itself. The Acropolis series drew directly on Greece's push during the 1990s and early 2000s to reframe the Olympics' return to Athens as a homecoming — a political and cultural argument that had been rejected in 1996 when the centennial games were awarded to Atlanta instead.

KM#204 is one of several denominations in the 2004 gold program, each tied to a different ancient monument or archaeological site.
