Beschrijving voorzijde At centre, the arms of Malta: a quartered shield displaying the George Cross on a white field to the dexter and vertical red and white stripes to the sinister, flanked by two olive branches tied at the base by a scroll bearing the legend REPUBBLIKA TA' MALTA, and surmounted by a mural crown. The shield and supporters occupy the central field of a raised inner circle. Surrounding this central device, a ring of twelve five-pointed stars decorates the broad outer field. The legend MALTA arcs along the left and the date 2024 along the right, both in the upper portion of the outer field.

Malta became a republic on December 13, 1974, when constitutional amendments passed by the House of Representatives transformed the former dominion into a republic within the Commonwealth, removing the British monarch as head of state. The Central Bank has marked the golden jubilee with this issue, a straightforward commemorative in the now-standard one-troy-ounce fine gold format that has become the workhorse denomination for Maltese collector coinage over the past decade.
