| Aanvullende informatie |
The First Dáil convened on 21 January 1919 in the Mansion House, Dublin, with only 27 of its 73 elected members present — the rest were either imprisoned by British authorities or on the run. That opening session lasted just two hours, yet it produced the Declaration of Independence and the Democratic Programme, both read aloud in Irish, a language most of the assembled politicians could barely speak.
The centenary issue sits in a notably thin field of Irish gold coinage; the Central Bank has issued gold commemoratives sparingly, keeping mintages low enough that secondary market premiums tend to hold.
