Reverse description A finely modelled bust of Ivana Brlić-Mažuranić is depicted facing slightly to the right, rendered in a textured, sculptural relief style that conveys the likeness of the celebrated Croatian author. Her hair is dressed in an upswept arrangement characteristic of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, and she wears a modest décolleté dress. The name 'IVANA' appears along the left border, with 'BRLIĆ-MAŽURANIĆ' arcing along the lower border, both in raised Latin lettering. The commemorative dates '1874.' and '2024.' are inscribed in the right field, marking the 150th anniversary of her birth, and the engraver's initials 'KK' appear discreetly in the left field near the bust.

Additional information

Ivana Brlić-Mažuranić, often called the "Croatian Andersen" for her fairy-tale writing, was the first woman nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature from Yugoslavia — twice, in 1931 and 1938 — though she never received it. She died in 1938, the same year as her second nomination. This issue marks the 150th anniversary of her birth and is among the first Croatian gold bullion-format commemoratives to center a literary figure rather than a monarch, saint, or historical statesman.
