Tristão reached the Rio Gambia in 1446 during his final voyage. The explorer's name NVNO TRISTÃO and the legend RIO GAMBIA 1446 appear in the upper and central fields respectively, with the engravers' signatures ISABEL F BRANCO and the mint mark INCM, along with the issue year 1987, inscribed in the lower field. |
