Opmerkingen

Chile replaced the Peso with the Escudo in 1960, lopping three zeros off the old denomination as part of a stabilization effort that ultimately failed to contain chronic inflation. By the time this 100 Escudo note was in active circulation, the Escudo itself was deteriorating fast — the denomination that had seemed substantial at introduction was reduced to petty currency within a decade.

The note spans the Allende government period, which ended with the September 1973 coup. Escudo issues from 1972–73 are often found in heavily circulated condition, reflecting a collapsing economy where notes changed hands at speed and the printing house struggled to keep up with demand.
