Part of Armenia's twelve-piece zodiac series issued through the late 2000s, each coin was produced in limited quantities for the collector market. The series draws on Armenia's deep engagement with astronomical tradition — medieval Armenian scholars produced significant calendar and astrological texts, and the country's highland geography made it a natural site for naked-eye observation long before modern astronomy.
KM#172 is the Scorpio issue, eighth sign in the sequence the mint worked through chronologically by release year.
