Panos Terlemezian (1865–1941) was an Armenian painter who studied under the Orientalist Franz von Lenbach in Munich before settling in Van, where he documented the Armenian communities of eastern Anatolia in the years before the Genocide. He survived the massacres of 1915 and eventually relocated to Soviet Armenia, where he spent his final decades. This coin was issued on the 150th anniversary of his birth, part of the Central Bank's ongoing commemorative series honoring figures of Armenian cultural history.
