Armenia's Central Bank issued a series of silver collector coins honoring football legends, of which this Platini piece is among the more curious — Platini was by 2011 the sitting president of UEFA, making a coin in his honor by a non-UEFA member association something of a diplomatic curiosity. Armenia had joined UEFA only in 1992 following independence from the Soviet Union.
