Additional information

Eusébio da Silva Ferreira, the Mozambican-born striker who became the defining figure of Benfica and Portuguese football in the 1960s, was honored here as part of Armenia's long-running series commemorating legends of world sport — a program that has little to do with Armenian cultural heritage and everything to do with the international collector market for silver commemoratives. Armenia began issuing coins of this type aggressively in the 2000s, contracting designs through foreign minting houses and targeting thematic collectors rather than domestic circulation.

Eusébio finished as top scorer at the 1966 FIFA World Cup with nine goals, a tournament in which Portugal reached third place — still the nation's best finish.
