| 正面描述 | The Armenian national coat of arms occupies the central field, depicting a double-headed eagle displayed, supporting a shield charged with the emblems of historic Armenian kingdoms, flanked by a lion and an eagle as supporters. The legend ՀԱՅԱՍՏԱՆԻ ՀԱՆՐԱՊԵՏՈՒԹՅՈՒՆ (Republic of Armenia) curves along the upper periphery in Armenian script. The denomination 100 and the currency name ԴՐԱՄ appear in the lower central field, with the date 1996 inscribed at the base, flanked by small ornamental devices. |

The 32nd Chess Olympiad was held in Yerevan in 1996 — a deliberate national statement for a country that had produced Tigran Petrosian, world champion from 1963 to 1969, and considers chess a matter of cultural identity rather than mere sport. Armenia had only re-established its own currency, the dram, in 1993 after Soviet dissolution, making this one of the Central Bank's earliest commemorative issues.
