| 正面描述 | Central field displays the Arms of the Republic of Liberia: a shield bearing a sailing ship, a plough, and a spade, with a palm tree to the right and a rising sun, flanked by supporting figures; a scroll at the base reads REPUBLIC OF LIBERIA. The fineness inscription '900/1000 FINE GOLD' appears below the arms in the lower field. The surrounding legend reads ORGANIZATION OF AFRICAN UNITY · MONROVIA, LIBERIA · JULY, 1979 along the upper periphery, with the denomination 100 DOLLARS arcing along the lower border, all within a beaded inner border. |

William Tolbert Jr. was assassinated in April 1980, just months after this coin was struck, when Master Sergeant Samuel Doe led a military coup that killed him in the Executive Mansion. Doe's forces then publicly executed thirteen cabinet ministers on a Monrovia beach. This issue therefore marks the final year of Americo-Liberian political dominance — a ruling class that had controlled the country since 1847.
