The hologram strip on the current $100 series — introduced in the 2013 redesign — incorporates a color-shifting Liberty Bell within an inkwell, a deliberate nod to the note's anti-counterfeiting history after a flood of high-quality North Korean "superdollars" in the 1990s forced a complete rethink of the series.
