Obverse description The obverse is dominated by a central intaglio vignette of a Native American encampment scene with multiple figures in traditional dress gathered around a fire, set against a finely engraved landscape background. A circular guilloche medallion with a decorative letter device occupies the upper left corner, while an ornate lathe-work panel bearing the numeral '100' fills the upper right; subordinate vignettes appear in the lower corners, including a flowering plant in a vessel at lower left and a reclining figure at lower right. Two manuscript signatures of the Comptroller and Treasurer appear along the bottom margin, above the engraver and printer imprint lines.
