| Obverse description | Printed in red on a multicoloured guilloche underprint, the obverse carries a classical allegorical female figure at left, robed and holding a staff, standing before a heraldic lion-and-shield device, rendered in intaglio. The bank title "MERCANTILE BANK LIMITED" is set in bold letterpress across the upper centre, flanked by Chinese characters and the numeral "100" in red corner cartouches. The promise-to-pay text and denomination "ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS" appear in the centre, with two manuscript signatures below captioned ACCOUNTANT and MANAGER, and the date "HONG KONG, 4TH NOV., 1974" at lower right alongside a multicoloured rosette vignette. |
