Reverse description The reverse presents a richly detailed landscape composition in high relief, depicting a rising sun emerging above a turbulent sea, its rays radiating upward into the central field. Two wind-swept trees flank the scene from the upper left and upper right, their gnarled branches extending dramatically across the field. Inscriptions arc across the upper portion of the reverse in three lines: UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, LIBERTY AND BRITANNIA, and E PLURIBUS UNUM, followed by AU 24 1OZ., IN GOD WE TRUST, and $100 centered in the field. The West Point mintmark W and engraver's initials JFM appear at lower left and lower right respectively.
