The P#71 replaced the earlier Erwin Blackman/Winston Cox-signed issues and arrived alongside a broader redesign push across the Eastern Caribbean monetary zone in the mid-2000s. Barbados had retained De La Rue as its printer continuously since independence-era note production, making this one of the longer unbroken single-printer relationships among Caribbean central banks.
The "large striped numeral" designation distinguishes this from earlier 100-dollar issues in the series — the oversized denomination numeral with iridescent striping was added specifically as a low-tech anti-counterfeiting measure aimed at markets with limited UV detection equipment.
