Obverse description The obverse carries a portrait vignette of John J. Knox Jr., 4th Comptroller of the Currency, positioned at the left, rendered in fine intaglio engraving against an intricate green guilloche underprint. The denomination ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS appears in large letters across the note, with the issuing national bank's name, city, and state inscribed in the central panel. Reverse description The reverse is printed in green intaglio and presents a central allegorical vignette of two classical male figures flanking the U.S. shield, with a bald eagle perched atop. The dates 1902 and 1908 appear in large numerals on either side of the central group, identifying this as the date-back variety. Ornate columnar borders with laurel wreaths frame the composition, and the denomination 100 is repeated in all four corners; the inscription THIS NOTE IS RECEIVABLE AT PAR is set within an oval cartouche at the center base, with NATIONAL CURRENCY lettered across the top.
