The Government of Barbados issued this note under wartime authority, bypassing the usual commercial banking channels that had previously dominated currency supply on the island. Bradbury Wilkinson's New Malden facility was handling colonial currency contracts across the British Empire simultaneously during this period, with security printing allocated under strict wartime paper and ink rationing.

The $100 denomination put this note well beyond ordinary retail use in 1943 Barbados — it was a high-value instrument in a colony where most transactions ran to shillings. Survival rates for this series are low; few were returned for cancellation in a documented way, and some were simply lost to tropical humidity over the decades.
