Obverse description An intaglio portrait of Benjamin Franklin occupies the center within an oval frame, surrounded by fine guilloche scrollwork. To the left of the portrait, the Federal Reserve Seal and the Treasurer's signature appear, while the Treasury Seal and the Secretary's signature are positioned to the right; green serial numbers and the district letter are printed in the upper-left and lower-right areas. Denomination numerals appear at each corner, and the note carries a legal tender clause noting redeemability in lawful money at the United States Treasury or any Federal Reserve Bank.
