Cook Islands has operated one of the more prolific bullion and commemorative programs in the Pacific, issuing coins primarily for the collector market with no expectation of domestic circulation. The Year of the Tiger series appeared across multiple Pacific island issuers simultaneously in 2010 — a coordinated release through the same handful of European and Asian distributors that handle most of these programs.
The 2010 Tiger falls in the 60-year sexagenary cycle at the intersection of the Metal Tiger, a combination that recurs only every 60 years — last occurring in 1950.
