Obverse description The obverse features a central raised circular cartouche bearing the right-facing effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, diademed and draped, as engraved by Ian Rank-Broadley, whose initials IRB appear below the truncation. The legend ELIZABETH II arcs to the left and COOK ISLANDS to the right within the cartouche, with the date 2021 positioned at the base. Surrounding the cartouche on the textured oval field are auspicious decorative elements: two cranes in flight rendered in high relief occupy the upper portion, while a stylised depiction of Mount Fuji appears at the lower centre. Three circular medallions containing Chinese characters — 丑 (upper left), 令 (upper right), and 参 (lower left) — are distributed across the field, all set against a horizontally striated background evoking traditional Japanese koban gold currency.
