| Aanvullende informatie |
Sir Francis Drake's connection to the Virgin Islands is direct: his 1585 Caribbean expedition passed through the archipelago, and the channel between Tortola and St. John still bears his name. The British Virgin Islands have leaned on that association repeatedly for collector issues, and this 2003 gold piece is one of several in a series exploiting the Drake connection for the bullion and numismatic market that emerged strongly in the late 1990s.
The .9999 fine specification places it among the higher-purity gold issues of the period — fractionally purer than the Krugerrand's .9167 standard.
