| Obverse description | Effigy of Queen Elizabeth II facing right, wearing the George IV State Diadem and a pearl necklace with drop earring, after the sixth and final definitive portrait modelled by Jody Clark; the engraver's initials 'JC' appear below the truncation. The central bust is framed by an ornate scrollwork border populated in high relief with all twelve animals of the Chinese zodiac — including a rat, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, goat, monkey, rooster, dog, and pig — arranged in procession around the inner field.
