Additional information

Issued to mark the 50th anniversary of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, this coin emerged from a broader Pacific commemorative program that saw numerous small island nations — Solomon Islands among them — produce gold issues tied to World War II events that directly touched their region. The Solomons' own wartime history, particularly the brutal Guadalcanal campaign of 1942–43, gave the territory a genuine stake in Pacific theater commemoration that many issuing authorities lacked.
