Obverse description The complete national arms of Barbados occupies the central field, featuring a shield charged with a bearded fig tree and two Pride of Barbados flowers, supported by a dolphin (fish-tailed) to the left and a pelican to the right, surmounted by a helmeted arm grasping two crossed sugar cane stalks. A scroll below bears the national motto PRIDE AND INDUSTRY. The divided date 19-83 flanks the shield at left and right, each numeral pair accompanied by a small trident symbol. The legend BARBADOS arcs prominently along the lower periphery, with the inscription 500/1000 FINE GOLD inscribed in small characters below the motto scroll. A beaded border encircles the entire design.
