Reverse description The reverse presents a dramatic interior view of the Library of Parliament in Ottawa, commemorating the 125th anniversary of its opening in 1876. Dominating the right side of the composition is the robed allegorical statue of Britannia holding a torch aloft, set against the Library's celebrated ribbed Gothic dome with its ornate central oculus, rendered in fine relief. The lower field depicts the exterior facade of the Library building with its characteristic Gothic Revival arched windows and buttresses. The legend CANADA arcs across the upper central field, with the commemorative dates •1876•2001• inscribed below, and the engravers' initials RRC appear in the lower left of the field.
