Issued to mark the 125th anniversary of the Library of Parliament, one of the few structures on Parliament Hill to survive the catastrophic 1916 fire that destroyed the Centre Block. A librarian reportedly closed the iron doors between the library and the main building as flames spread, a decision credited with saving the collection. The RCM struck this in 14-karat gold rather than the more common .999 or .925 standards, an unusual alloy choice that gives the coin its distinctively warm tone.
