This particular issue commemorates the Leadbeater's Possum, Victoria's faunal emblem, a species reduced to an estimated few hundred individuals following the 2009 Black Saturday bushfires and decades of old-growth logging in the Central Highlands. The selective platinum plating technique, applied over .9999 gold, requires a secondary electroplating process after striking.
