Beschrijving keerzijde Two stylised cartoon elephants known as Ottifants, the iconic characters created by German comedian Otto Waalkes, face each other in a kissing pose at centre, their trunks entwined and raised upward to form a heart shape above. The textured field evokes a warm, intimate atmosphere. The facsimile signature of Otto Waalkes appears in the lower central field beneath the figures. The bilingual circular legend reads TEMPUS FUGIT • AMOR MANET in the upper arc and DIE ZEIT VERGEHT • DIE LIEBE BLEIBT in the lower arc, separated by bullet points.

Aanvullende informatie

The "Kissing Ottifants" derives from Otto Waalkes, the German comedian who created the elephant-like character in the 1970s as a recurring motif in his stage and television work. Waalkes's Ottifant became one of the most recognizable pieces of German pop iconography, eventually spawning licensed merchandise across Europe. Tuvalu has leaned heavily into its role as a vehicle for themed bullion issues — the country's mint licensing arrangements with the Perth Mint have made it one of the more prolific issuers of pop-culture gold in the Pacific region.
